There are times when your plastic glasses feel uncomfortable on your nose, even leaving indentions when you wear them for long periods of time. Other times the nose pads fall off or break requiring a new pair of nose pads to make your glasses wearable again.
Some plastic glasses simply don't have any nose pads, and others have nose pads that are molded right into the frame of glasses. In such cases adjusting or fixing the nose pads on plastic glasses may be impossible to repair on your own. However, it is possible to adjust and repair both screw in and snap on nose pads on your own.
Adjusting the Nose Pads on Plastic Glasses
If the nose pads on your plastic glasses are attached by metal brackets then adjusting those pads is a simple matter. If your glasses are sitting too high on your nose then by putting a bit of pressure of the nose pads and pressing them outward a little should make them fit better.
Should your nose pads sit too low or your nose, pressing the nose pads inward will adjust the fit. Try and make sure that you adjust both nose pads the same amount so that they sit evenly on your face.
How to Repair or Replace Screw In Nose Pads
Screw in nose pads sometimes needs to be repaired or replaced when they become too dirty or break off. Repairing or replacing screw in nose pads may be something you can accomplish fairly easily on your own.
Repairing a Screw in Nose Pad
The most common repair that a screw in nose pad for plastic glasses need is the tightening of the screw that holds the nose piece. This is a simple fix requiring just a jeweler's flat head screw driver to turn the screw to the right to tighten it back up.
Should the screw that needs to be tightened have it's treads stripped then you will need to find the exact same size and type of screw to replace the stripped screw to hold the nose piece in place.
Changing those Screw in Nose Pads
Should you need to change those screw in nose pads doing so is also a relatively easy process. All you need to do is to follow these steps.
- You need to start by purchasing new nose pads. You need to find the same size and shape of nose pads that your glasses all ready have. (Although you may want to go with silicone nose pads since they conform to the shape of your nose.) You can either buy a complete nose pad kit that has everything you need. If you choose not to purchase a kit then purchase a jeweler's flat head screw driver to replace that worn out nose piece.
- Using the jeweler's screwdriver turn the screw holding the nose piece to the left carefully. (You want to reuse the screws if possible.)
- Remove the old nose pads (they should just lift off)
- Take the new nose pad and line up the hole in the nose piece with the hole in the mount.
- Using a pair of tweezers to put screws through the holes and turning right tighten the screws gently.
- Adjust the two nose pieces so that the glasses sit levelly on your nose and face.
Snap on Nose Piece Replacement
If you plastic glasses have snap on nose pieces, replacing them on your own is also a simple process. By following these simple steps:
- Purchase nose pieces the same and size as the ones currently on your glasses.
- Cradle glasses sideways so that the nose pad faces up.
- Press the thumb nail of the same hand that is holding the glasses against the nose pad mount.
- Using a flat head screwdriver or butter knife twist to pop off the nose pad (from the little post it fits over.)
- Line up the nose pad to the hole on the frame and press into place until you hear the pop that tells you that pad is securely into place.
